one year
Yesterday was the first anniversary of Blue Dog's death. T very much wanted to commemorate the occasion. He decided that we would be giving Red Dog a can of tuna (and there were no objections from Red Dog with that plan). We also decided to go to The Natural Gardener to buy plants. There is an area of the backyard where the previous owner had some kind of garden with boring ground cover which we neglected and let die. Blue Dog used to dig in the dirt along there and curl up in the holes he created for himself. For the past year, we've talked about planting some vegetation in the area and making it into "Blue Dog's Garden." Yesterday seemed an appropriate day to do so.

Of course, as luck would have it, there was rain all day yesterday. We thought we could make it through the nursery in a break in the storms yesterday afternoon, and for the most part, we did. At one point we spent a few minutes in a greenhouse waiting out a downburst, but that wasn't too awful.
The kids absolutely loved the Natural Gardener. T was WIRED. We're pretty sure that he must have gotten into the espresso threatened in the sign above (though we made it home without any puppies, donkeys, goats, or chickens). He was talking non-stop the entire time we were there, and he bounced from display to display reading all the information on the plants. Then he was off to the next display. J and B also had a great time, but neither of them seemed to have a caffeine drip going.

We bought about 20 plants and brought them home. Yesterday afternoon in between the next set of showers, the kids dug in the mud and helped Daddy-o plant Blue Dog's Garden. I'll put up another post about that when I get the pictures processed!
