B had his fourth birthday party yesterday. He was very excited about it. He picked out a construction truck theme nine months ago and stuck with it. So construction trucks it was. On Saturday night, we made the chocolate birthday cake, shown at the left. B helped lick the beaters and put on the trucks and blueberries. B is a blueberry addict, so he also helped eat all the leftover blueberries that weren't needed for the cake. T & J put icing and sprinkles on vanilla cupcakes with Daddy-o while B was helping me with this task.

When we got to the park for the party yesterday, B's uncle carried the foil-covered cake over to the pavilion. B told his uncle that the cake "had instructions on it." We weren't quite sure what that meant. A little while later, B told his uncle something else about "instruction trucks," and we were able to figure out that instruction=construction.

Aside from the cake eating festivities, the kids played on scooter boards, with a parachute, and with a homemade bean bag toss. They also made a dump truck craft "that really dumps!" And of course, there was the playground to play on. There were 16 guest kids, our 3 kids, 3 infants/toddlers, and 1 slightly older cousin in attendance, so there was plenty of noise and peaceful chaos, too. We all had fun, and there was gorgeous weather after a long week of rainy icky days.

B announced the day before his party that his fifth birthday party will have a monkey theme. We'll have to see if he sticks with that. J has selected a dolphin theme and T has selected a Lego theme for their birthday in July.

B is also trying desperately to turn six. He hasn't figured out yet that when he turns six, the twins will be nine. He doesn't realize he can't catch up. He asked me yesterday why their birthdays aren't all on the same day. I'm at a loss to explain that one.

Today T & J have some kind of fever, headache, stomachache, and sore throat illness. This is the way things work around here-- the fun never stops!
