a week of fun with grandparents

canoing on Barton Spring

In the last week of July, the kids didn't go to camp or school. Instead, they got to roam around central Texas with Oma and Opa (their grandparents) as well as an uncle and his girlfriend who were in town for a brief visit.

On Saturday, 7/26, TBnJ went to ADS to do some playground construction work. After a while, they went and showed the visiting uncle and his girlfriend the Texas Capitol, extension, and visitor's center.

On Sunday, 7/27, TBnJ went canoing on Town Lake with Oma, Opa, Daddy-o, the uncle and girlfriend. I went by to take pictures of this endeavor.

After that, the week starts to get fuzzy for me as the kids took Oma and Opa so many different places. They went to a free library program and spent quite a bit of time reading at the library on Monday afternoon, but I can't remember where they went Monday morning. They went to see Alvin and the Chipmunks in a movie theater on Tuesday morning. They went to the Symphony Square Children's Day Art Park to see Aunty E on Wednesday morning and then saw Wall-E on Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, they went to San Antonio. They went to the San Antonio Zoo, The Cove, and the Witte Museum. At the San Antonio Zoo, they were all positively obsessed with seeing the okapi. All the kids really like them for reasons we don't understand. They loved the cove where they were able to play ping pong while the adults relaxed for a few minutes. B also loved the playscape there, but T declared it "boring." TBnJ had been to the Witte Museum in San Antonio before, but they loved going back. B's favorite thing continued to be the Egyptian wall that the kids would build and then it would fall with an earthquake. They also played with a green screen television set, musical instruments made from common objects (which T explained to me were "loud"), and a lot of outdoor water experiments.

On Friday, they went to their cousins' house and played quietly while everyone recovered from Thursday. On Saturday, T and B went with Daddy-o to a new kindergarteners playdate at Patterson Park while J went with me on a photo shoot at Mayfield Park. In the afternoon, they went and saw their cousin perform at the Austin Lyric Opera. On Sunday morning, the kids took Daddy-o and their grandparents hiking on Bull Creek where they splashed in the creek and had fun. B also found $15 next to a rock so that was the highlight of his day.

After a week of entertainment, Oma and Opa headed back home to rest and get some vacation from their vacation!
