the first two weeks of summer camp
For the first full week of summer vacation, T and J went to different camps at different locations. This wasn't ideal, but it made them both very happy.
T went to Lego Mindstorms NXT camp at Davis Elementary, run by Austin Children's Museum. This was his dream camp for the summer. He really wanted to do it. He had a blast. Thirty minutes before it was time to leave each morning he was wanting to go get in the car. Unfortunately, he got sick and missed the last day of camp, so we have no photos of his creation. But he had a great deal of fun designing a robot who was named R2D2 (go figure). I can very easily see him going back to this camp again next summer.
J had no interest in going to Mindstorms camp whatsoever. She said she'd rather just stay home with me. However, since I needed to get work done, that wasn't really an option all week long. Instead, she ended up i
n a rock climbing camp at Lifetime Fitness' north location. It was only a half day camp, but since it's not far from us, it worked out fine. She had a blast. She knew four of the 13 other girls in the class from school and the neighborhood, so that helped, but she also just loves rock climbing. She came home and zonked out every single day because it was such a good workout. I can see her happily going back to that camp next summer, too.
For the second week of summer, they both went to Mad Science camp #1, "Science Sleuths." This included Mad Messages, Earth Awareness, Science of Sport, Nature, and Space Day. They both loved it just like they always do with Mad Science camps. J was out sick for Science of Sport day (same virus T had the week before), but T made a cap that day pictured at left. T obviously loved the Space Day. The two of them go to another Mad Science camp later this summer, and then they only have one theme they won't have attended. Mad Science needs to add more camp themes for them in future years!
