It was a gorgeous 84 degrees outside this afternoon, so the whole family went for a walk in the neighborhood park. The exhaust from the construction trucks was awful so we had to get away from that area pretty quickly, but we enjoyed the rest of the hike and bike trail. (Side note: The cement pour for the foundation for the new recreation center is supposed to occur at 2 am tonight. We were told to "expect lights and construction traffic." Great!)

T picked a bunch of bulbous greenery which he claimed were wild onions. Since we don't know that for sure, we didn't bring them home for dinner. B also picked quite a few weed flowers. J happily posed in the wildflowers for me (though there are no bluebonnets in the park).

We spent a lot of time down by the creek. B used the bucket he brought along (a favorite birthday present) to scoop stinky water out of the creek. J and T were searching for aquatic wildlife and found quite a bit. Red Dog and Blue Dog were getting drinks much to my dismay. I thought that was all Red Dog was doing in the photo at right. It turns out I was wrong. He was stalking crawfish. And he caught one. Crunch. And he began eating it. Gross. I made Daddy-o drag Red Dog away from his "prize" because I just couldn't see how raw creek crawfish with the shell on could be good for Red Dog's digestive system. The remains he left behind were disgusting. I'm declining to post a picture of that.

As we continued onward, B picked wild Yaupon Holly berries and put them in his treasured bucket (pictured above at left). They made beautiful "plunk plunk plunk" sounds much like in the book Blueberries for Sal. B was disappointed they weren't really blueberries (his favorite fruit), nor are they even safe for humans to eat, but he had a great time making plunk noises.

On the last bit of the trek home, we noticed a hitchhiker on J's shirt (at left). She's so much better than me. She didn't screech, but she did get quite frustrated with it when it wouldn't climb on the leaf so she could remove it. B also tried to help her get it off.
