Earth Day

Yesterday was another busy Saturday for the kids. The day started with a trip to Boggy Creek Farm to get lettuce, onions, potatoes and strawberries (YUM). They then went onward to the Austin Farmer's Market to participate in Earth Day. The main reason we decided on this particular celebration was that they had tons and tons of boxes for kids to play with and build a "Box City." Since T is always bugging us about wanting to build things with boxes, we took advantage of this opportunity to let him build his heart out. He helped build a tower and a tunnel and something else. All the kids had fun playing in the boxes and declared it the best part of Earth Day. They also participated in other activities at the celebration as pictured in this entry. And yes, J is wearing her white and blue Nellie dress with turquoise stockings and ruby slippers. There was no convincing her otherwise although she's now upset that the dress has paint on it. Here's hoping it comes out in the wash.

After the Farmer's Market, they headed to P. Terry's for lunch. Then J got dropped off at an adult friend's house; the adult friend and Julia went shopping for a few hours. They tried on glasses and hats and shopped for swimsuits. They also got a smoothie at Whole Foods.

While the girls were doing girly things, the boys went to go see the track meet at UT. Even thought the web said things started at 2, Daddy-o said nothing really got going until 2:40 so they were mainly watching athletes practicing. They only stayed to watch a bit of the pole vaulting. Daddy-o was amazed that about 1/3 of the athletes didn't even make the first setting. The boys enjoyed if for a while, but they eventually got bored and B set about untying everyone's shoe laces for entertainment. At that point, they came home to play with Legos.
