Easter

Last year, J realized that the Easter Bunny uses the same eggs every single year. I told her that Daddy-o and I put them out for the Easter Bunny to fill after they've gone to bed. This year, I decided that there was no need for me to waste a large amount of time matching egg tops and bottoms. So on Saturday night after the kids cleaned up the downstairs, I pulled out the eggs and dumped them on the living room rug. The kids paired them up for the Easter Bunny to "reduce, reuse, recycle" under the pretense that they were now old enough to help with this chore so that Mama and Daddy-o didn't need to do it any more. They had great fun doing it. I appreciated that the eggs took less than half the time to fill this year!

Because the Easter Bunny is in the running for the label of clinical insane, she decided not to stuff all the eggs with candy and cookies this year. Rather, the eggs each had a letter in them on either pink, green, or yellow paper. There were three eggs for each kid on the kitchen table in bowls at their spots that had a total of about 40 jelly beans each in them. There was also a bag of cinnamon graham cookies.

When I woke up on Easter morning at 6:25 a.m., I went into T's room where all the kids had convened waiting for me. I gave them each a piece of paper which the Easter Bunny had left in my room (a few minutes earlier hot off the printer...) that said:

J’s Super Letters
Pink: _ _ L_ B_ _
Green: I _ _ _ _ T _ _
Yellow: _ W_ _ _ U _ _ _

The kids figured out that it must be something like Super Why! but they weren't quite sure what it was. So we went downstairs and they hunted eggs.

After they had gathered and opened eggs, we sat at the kitchen table and tried to figure out the word puzzles that the Easter Bunny had left us. The kids needed a few hints, but they eventually figured them all out. J was actually pretty good at it and solved most of B's and a few of T's, too. When they figured out what the clue said, they went to the location indicated and found a "prize." J got two American Girl outfits and a K'nex Ferris Wheel. T got Blokus, a new Backyardigans DVD, and a screaming rocket set. B got a Franklin CD, a Little Einsteins DVD, and a Mars Mission Lego set. T was not happy that B got the Lego set, but that was intentional. B wanted to have some Mars Mission Legos since T won't let B play with his.

While all this was transpiring, the kids were eating a breakfast of champions: the jelly beans and cookies. We subsequently fed them scrambled eggs, but the blood sugar bounce was not pretty in all of them. Our plan had been that they would watch a new DVD or two. However, the DVD player went and died on Saturday night, so that was foiled. Daddy-o took them up to the park instead to try out T's new rockets. T says that he's not tall enough to do them. Daddy-o says that T's arms just aren't long enough. The rockets use a slingshot to launch, so Daddy-o had to help T launch them. They also flew kites. J is laying on the ground in the picture at the right because flying a kite is such hard work.

After they got home, we attempted to play Blokus which was a semi-failure. T and J can do it, but B was lost and bored. He just was causing trouble and irking the rest of us. After lunch, we deemed it nap time for everyone. They all needed the nap desperately. After nap time, they went over to their cousins' house to play. They did baseball and cascarones and other such spring time events. J was happily all decked out in a frilly pink dress and red sparkling shoes. B and T were less sure about why they needed to wear pants and a shirt with a collar, but eventually they put on the clothes that didn't have holes in them. J posed for the camera and took a ton of fabulous photos whereas the boys grimaced and complained and barely made it through the ordeal.
