a busy week
This was the second week of Spring Break for T&J. Because Daddy-o's parents came into town late on Monday, B took off most of the week from school, too. TBnJ spent Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday wearing out their grandparents.
On Tuesday morning, they went to the ever popular Austin Children's Museum. Then they went to Zocalo Cafe for lunch, Ramsey Park for play time before storms hit, and Dart Bowl in the afternoon.
On Wednesday morning, they went to the Austin Nature and Science Center. They were going to fly kites at Zilker Park, but it was too windy. They walked around at the Zilker Botanical Gardens. They got lunch from P. Terry's and went back to Zilker to eat it. They kids thought going through the drive-thru at P. Terry's was great because they've never done that. Then in the afternoon they went to see Horton Hears a Who at the movie theater. T and B really liked it. J wasn't thrilled. Both Daddy-o and I got the same answers from her when we tried to talk to her about it. She said, "It was just about Horton Hears a Who." Both Daddy-o and I couldn't figure out why she would have expected it to be different from the book of the same name, but clearly she had higher expectations of a completely different story line.
On Thursday, the kids went to Extreme Fun to jump off some energy. The had lots of fun there. B had been there on the 15th for a birthday party for a classmate, and he was anxiously to go back again. T and J had never been.
After a picnic lunch, TBnJ went to the local library to see a puppet show presentation of "Why Cowboys Sing in Texas!" They all enjoyed it, too. When I asked J about it, she said, "It was those puppets we see in the tents on the street." While that sounds like a strange violation of Austin's no camping ordinance, a little more questioning revealed that the show was put on by two women who also perform at the Texas Book Festival which indeed is held in tents on streets around the Capitol.
Of course, no trip to the library is complete without bringing home books. To prevent them from bringing home the whole library, we put a cap of three books each on them (in addition to the 10+ books that were already on hold for them and the 10+ books we already have out from the library). T selected three books about the making of the Star Wars movies. B got assorted picture books including one about Curious George. And J brought home three Junie B. Jones books which she argued she "hadn't read lately." They also picked up TinTin comic books, Miss Mallard books, Boxcar Children books, and Eloise books from the holds we had placed.
Today's fun includes playing with their cousins, napping, and doing things around the house. Enchanted is on the movie list for this evening, we think.
