TBnJ went to New Braunfels on Saturday morning to visit the ever popular McKenna Children's Museum with friends. They spent about two hours at the museum in the morning and went back for an hour in the afternoon. They had lots of fun playing in the mock grocery store. They rode on fake horses. They paddled mock kayaks. They got very wet in the outside water play area. At left, T and J are putting on space gear. At right, B is painting the remains of a Volkswagon bug. They all came home with a bit of paint on their clothes which washed right out.

In the three interim hours when they weren't at the children's museum, they went to Landa Park. They had a picnic lunch. They played on the playground. Much to Daddy-o's dismay, the large wooden play structure is no longer there. Then with Daddy-o's assistance, they went hiking and explored the park. Daddy-o was thrilled by the number of creeks in the park. But the kids? The highlight of their entire day (including going to the museum) was seeing the "river rats" as they are known by the locals. The more proper name seems to be nutria. Daddy-o said they looked like beavers with opossums' tails. The kids all said the river rats were the best part of the day. There's a picture of one at the lower right, though you might need to click on it to enlarge it enough to see the difference in those brown lumps. Two are geese.

They also rode on the train. Daddy-o told them that the website said that the train was $2 each. B replied, "That means it will be $8." It was actually $9 because the website is outdated on the price. But they rode the train throughout the park. While on the train, J had the camera. She took some very interesting pictures. A goose. The bottom of the electrical tower. The top of the electrical tower. The paddleboats docked on dry land. And her favorite, the trashcan at left. She kept telling me yesterday evening, "I took a picture of a trashcan. Giggle giggle giggle." In the modern era of digital "film," if it humors her to take a picture of a trashcan, she can amuse herself all she wants (or until the camera memory runs out!).
