Today was the first day of school for T&J. J did indeed wear her Buttermilk Biscuit dress. T wore a tie dye shirt with gray shorts which happen to be the same pair of shorts he wore on the first day of school last year.

The pencil boxes at right are the ones they decorated for school. All the other school supplies are pooled into a community source, but the kids got to buy individual pencil boxes.

They had a grand time at school today, especially T. He had a million things to tell me about the day. There is a new music teacher who is male and that was very exciting to T. Their teacher gave them Ramona books. They did "lots of cool stuff" in math. Two of his friends from his class last year were in his new class, plus there is a boy from another class last year whom he liked.

J didn't have quite so much to say. Her main comment was that she got to see I, her best friend, at recess and after school. They aren't in the same class this year for better or for worse. At recess they mainly watched a big stinkbug which they named "Stinky." She has one other friend from her class last year in the class this year, and so she hung out with her during school hours.

T and J are in the same class again this year as we've found it is best for academic reasons. Both kids already knew their teacher because T was in her class two years ago.

Their school has the tradition of letting the kids name the classes. T was in the Blue Lions his first year, and J was in the Texas Stars. Last year they were in the Silver Serpents. This year they are in the Golden Cheetahs. T was hoping for the Orange Aliens, and J was hoping for a sea themed creature such as a Rainbow Seahorse though she is quite happy with the Golden Cheetahs. The name is still subject to approval since the teachers have to make sure none of the classes end up named too similarly.

B also moved up to a new preschool room today, but so did almost all his peers, so it was not a big transition. Their teacher wasn't there today, though, so they had a sub. That must have made for an interesting day!
