fashion
Tomorrow is the first day of school. I told the kids they need to think about what they were wearing for school tomorrow. J said she already knew that she was wearing her Buttermilk dress (which was actually her Halloween costume two years ago but which has become one of her favorite dresses). T said he didn't know what he was wearing and he really wasn't worried about it. This is the typical fashion response of the two of them. Daddy-o tried to argue that it was the response of any typical male and female.
Yesterday, Daddy-o and the kids were at the Austin Farmers' Market. Daddy-o was approached by a woman from Wondertime who wanted to take a photo of J because "she has a look." That cracked Daddy-o and me up completely. This is the same child who pitched a fit yesterday morning when the clothes we selected for her did not meet her standards of her "look," and she eventually stomped upstairs to find some clothes herself which is what we wanted her to do in the first place.
J's "look" is definitely unique. Most days it involves intentionally mismatching her clothes as much as possible. That or wearing as many colors in the rainbow as possible. Yesterday was not too bad. She had on a green shirt with an off-white and orange pumpkin skirt which I made a couple of years ago. This was matched with a purple headband. She had on white socks with a red gingham ruffle, and I didn't see which shoes she chose to finish the outfit. Our parenting philosophy is that if it's clean, weather appropriate, and fits, she can wear it. We have bigger problems to worry about. The boys were about equally as fashionable. T had on a sleeveless olive green shirt with bright yellow shorts, and B had on a white short sleeved dress shirt with blue knit shorts. However, their look was not what the photographer was looking for.
