This past week, T and J were at Austin Museum of Art for art classes. By choice, they ended up in two different classes at the same time. They had lots of fun and always enjoy classes at AMOA. We'll definitely send them back to other ones in the future.

J chose to enroll in Whimsical Clay:

Create whimsical clay art to express yourself. Boost your art confidence in our amazing natural site. Explore basic ceramic skills, build with rich clay materials, and become aware of a variety of glazes. Our projects will range from dancing teapots to fantastic animal structures.

J's description of it on a day-by-day basis:

Monday: When I asked J about Whimsical Clay, she said it was good. They made pinch pots and secret compartments and something else. Her teacher is Ms. J who was also the teacher for computer art in the spring. That helped so that she didn’t feel so alone in there. She had fun and was looking forward to going back.

Tuesday: J said that they worked on making their pinch pots into animals. Hers is going to be an alien. She’s been hanging around T too much lately—that or she’s planning to give it to T. They are also making a sculpture with a secret compartment to hide things in. Hers is a bunny.

Wednesday: J said she worked on her alien and her bunny.

Thursday: J said she worked on a teapot. She did the main part and the spout but didn’t get the handle done.

Friday: J finished the handle and the lid for her teapot. She painted everything. She said the handle broke off her teapot and an ear broke off her bunny when she was showing it to Daddy-o. Her creations will be ready for pick-up in about two weeks.

T selected a Claymation class because he wanted to learn how to create Wallace and Gromit. The description for the class is:

Create stop-motion animation! Make your own clay cartoon, then create a movie set and animate a mini-movie with your creature as the star. Discover secrets and tricks to make your creatures realistic: jump, roll over, fly and climb–the possibilities for claymation are endless!

T's description of things:

Monday: When I asked T how Claymation was, he said, “Perfect!” He said that his group made a clay dragon who was attacking a clay cat and whose eyes popped out and walked away and then came back. I had him clarify that it is the dragon’s eyes popping out, not the cat’s. They made a movie of this. Somehow I think his group must have a lot of boys in it. He was very excited to go back again today.

Tuesday: T said he worked on his clay figure for his movie. It’s an alien that looks like Grey. He is loving this camp.

Wednesday: T said they began filming their movie. There are four of them in the group, him and three girls. The girls are 7, 9, and 9. The movie is about an alien playing croquet on Mars. I don’t know how T talked them into this. T said the class is less interesting now that they are making the movie. He prefers doing the hands-on creation of the art.

Thursday: T said they finished making their movie and are going to work on credits tomorrow.

Friday: T’s class did credits and then had a presentation of the movies for parents. There were three movies in total, all about two minutes long according to Daddy-o. T says there was one called “The Milky Way” which was actually about an ocean made out of milk. The other one was called "The Spicy Hot Dog" in which the lead character ate a spicy hot dog which made his/her head blow up. Daddy-o says they were all pretty funny.

The movies from T's class will be posted eventually, but his class is not up yet. The movies there are from sessions earlier this summer.
