movie watching
TBnJ have watched a variety of movies lately as we "enjoy" the ever falling rain that threatens to float us into the Gulf of Mexico.
We rented The Love Bug from Netflix which was one of my favorite movies when I was young. It was a flop. B said it was too scary. J said it was too boring. T was busy reading a book while watching because the book was more interesting. They ended up watching it all, but they didn't want to watch it twice.
As a selection for B, we rented Franklin and the Turtle Lake Treasure. B and T liked it a lot, though all three kids found it a bit scary at parts. I don't remember if they watched it two or three times before it went back.
As a J choice movie, we rented Molly: An American Girl on the Homefront. It lasted less than two minutes for T and B. They went to play Legos in the other room. J watched it all once and enjoyed it but didn't want to watch it twice. It was not so fun for me to watch since I had to explain some of the less pleasant things about WWII like blackouts, bombing and wounded/dead soldiers. At one point during the film, Molly's father is heading off to war on a train. T came charging in from the other room to see the train. He was disappointed that all he got was about 10 seconds of interesting (to him) film.
To compensate for the American Girl movie, we got Bill Nye the Science Guy: Outer Space Way Out There! Netflix doesn't have any of the Bill Nye series on DVD, so we're having to get them on VHS from the public library. T really likes Bill Nye, and since this DVD is about space, it's all the better. B was pretty sucked into it when they were watching it for the second time yesterday. I have a feeling we'll be going through the entire series during the rest of the year (or what's availabe at APL). I'm not going to argue with them watching educational tv!
On Thursday afternoon, T found the Wallace and Gromit in Three Amazing Adventures VHS tape in the drawer under the futon. Ok, so the link says it is a DVD, but some of us still have and watch those clunky old VHS tapes. The kids haven't watched that one in a long time because it was too scary, but T seems to have crossed over that fear and found it absolutely hysterical this time. J was a bit freaked by The Wrong Trousers movie but did ok with A Close Shave (which I think is scarier). B loved watching it, too.
The kids also watched Tom and Jerry on the CW this morning. It is a new version of the show-- not the ones we watched in the 70s and 80s. Daddy-o was not impressed, but T loved them. We don't understand how they can be so freaked out by other things but have no problem with Tom and Jerry going through a haunted house.
