Liam Party Day
Today was "Liam Party Day." That is because TBnJ went to two birthday parties, both for boys named Liam. The parties were at overlapping times, too. We find it odd that we know four Liams between the ages of 3 and 7, two of whom share the same last initial and both have dogs named Buddy. According to government statistics, Liam was only the 98th most popular name for boys in the U.S. in 2006, though it has been rapidly gaining in popularity in the past twenty years.
The first birthday party was at the home of Liam M. and had a Magic Schoolbus theme. Courtesy of Liam's uncle, there was a real school bus there to ride on, though it did not transform into different shapes or fly or anything. There were a bunch of educational type activities to do. T said his favorite thing to do was "overexplode volcanoes," aka mixing vinegar and baking soda. All three kids loved playing in a sandbox that had shells hidden in it. B and J are playing with the Marbleworks station at right.
The second party was at Zilker Park and had a pirate theme. Liam C. is a classmate of T and J, so they saw lots of friends there. They played on the playground and broke a pirate pinata. T is at left taking his turn swinging. [Side note: When I asked T and J what kind of things Liam C was interested in for a present, both of them simultaneously said, "Cars!" That made it pretty easy to figure out which present to pull out of the present closet.]
The crew also hit Boggy Creek Farm this morning and brought home some yummies. Dinner was a delicious buffet. We had fresh corn, fresh purple beans (which turned green when cooked), fresh red potatoes, and a few paltry strawberries from the last of the field for this year. Added to that, we had blackberries, mango, and cantalope from Greenling. It was quite the delicious spread. They also brought home rhubarb from Boggy Creek, so if they make it to Whole Foods to buy more strawberries tomorrow and I get them cut up before T eats them all, we may actually have a strawberry rhubarb pie. The latest batch of blackberries are kind of mushy, so all three kids are asking me to make blackberry muffins. I am pretty sure this is due to "If You Give a Moose a Muffin." J says she will eat one of the muffins. I'm not holding my breath on that one, but maybe she'll prove me wrong!
