a cold Easter
Mother Nature decided to mess with us for Easter weekend this year. Yesterday it was in the 30s and rainy all day. It cancelled quite a few Easter egg hunts, but TBnJ still got to hunt eggs at the sugarless egg hunt at the Austin Farmer's Market. They also went to Boggy Creek Farm to pick organic strawberries in the mud, but T and B refused because it was too cold. Daddy-o and J got some, though. They also stopped by the recycling center, the Austin Public Library, and the downtown Whole Foods.
In the afternoon, they played around the house and watched an episode off of the new Little Einsteins video (The Legend of the Golden Pyramid) B got for his birthday from one of his friends. We'd never seen Little Einsteins before. The kids like it, but Daddy-o and I did a lot of eye-rolling at each other. Daddy-o did hum along with a lot of the classical music. We also watched Harriet the Spy which didn't enthrall the kids much. The kids also played Rivers, Roads and Rails which Benjamin had received for a birthday gift. Meanwhile, the weather alternated between sleet and rain all afternoon. No accumulation, unfortunately. We were all hoping for a white Easter.
This morning, T was up at 5 am. Daddy-o told him to go back to bed. We went downstairs to hunt eggs which had their once a year bonanza of organic jelly beans, organic gummy bears, and organic alphabet cookies inside of them. The Easter bunny ironically brought swimsuits for all three kids. J is wearing hers now despite the fact it is 37 degrees outside (and I'm wearing a turtleneck and sweats). They also got a Backyardigan's CD and two Backyardigans videos. T got a Lego Contraptions book. J got can stilts. B got a wooden forklift. Somehow we managed to convince them not to eat all of the candy and only a few cookies.
By 8 am, the kids had settled in to the new Mission to Mars video. As the Backyardigans' shuttle blasted off to space, T hollered out, "But wait! They don't have their ignition tank or booster rockets!" Sigh. I pointed out to T that the retracting arm also hadn't pulled back from the shuttle when it blasted off and furthermore the shuttle can't go to Mars. It is just pretend. Daddy-o and T have also been working on the Legos while watching the tv. It's definitely a slow, lazy morning around here.
We aren't quite sure what we are going to do with three sugar loaded kids today, thought it is supposed to warm up a bit later on. J wants to try out her wooden can stilts in the front yard. She's used them on the 5x7 rug in the toy room, but that doesn't give much wandering space.
