cold, icy weather
For Austin, it is cold today. After 3" of rain in our neck of the woods yesterday (and 6-7" in other parts of Austin), we have already reached our high for the day at 37 degrees. It is forecast to get colder and wetter as the day progresses.
Anticipating this course of events, the kids and Daddy-o spent four hours at Radijazz yesterday burning off energy.
So we're doing indoor activities at home today. The kids have been playing with toys and Chutes and Ladders.
We have pearsauce on the stove now since we had an army of about 20 pears sitting on our counter waiting to be made into pearsauce. We have butternut squash in the oven. And T and B want pumpkin pie, so that's on the list for later. B wanted strawberry pie, but as T told him before we could, strawberries are not in season.
Also on the agenda: Homemade Playdough.
2 c white flour
2 c water
2 T oil
1 T cream of tartar
1 c salt
food coloring (optional)
Mix all dry ingredients in a microwave safe bowl. Add wet ingredients. Microwave on high 4 minutes. Stir. Microwave for additional 1 minute increments until it is the consistency of mashed potatoes. Cool until safe to touch. Knead in food coloring. Have fun playing. Store in a Ziploc bag for half an eternity.
