buffalo dung

At dinner on Friday night, we discussed the expedition to the zoo. T was fascinated with the gibbon. J liked the baby squirrel monkeys. J did not like the herpatarium (as is traditional for her [and me!] at zoos) nor did she like the alligators. They all generally had a great time. The promised lion cubs were nowhere to be seen, though Daddy-o thinks he may have spied them sleeping with the rest of the sleepy lions.
Last night at bedtime, B was sleepily babbling about the zoo when he announced to me, "Water buffalo poop, it's stinky. You know those black piles-- those are the poop." That certainly is one of the lessons to be learned at the zoo. B also said he saw the momma and daddy elephants but not the baby even though the sign said there was a baby elephant. And he also saw three hippos which were really big. And... and... and... the boy loves to talk.

The kids also went to Cameron Park to eat a picnic lunch, play on the playground and throw some frisbee golf. When they got to the playground, there was a whole school's worth of older kids, so it was too crowded, but eventually the school group left and in the words of T, "We owned the playground." They had a great time playing disc golf, though I think Grandpa was less than impressed with their skills. He just rolled his eyes when I asked about how they did. Daddy-o was amused by their playing, too, though he holds out hope that in a few years they'll be good enough to play a real game of disc golf with him. He did selectively choose the holes they played so that they weren't next to cliffs or rivers or other major natural obstacles.
