baseball playoffs
Last night, B and I were watching the Tigers-As playoff game after the big two went to bed. Daddy-o stopped in to watch a few minutes right before bedtime, too. B was alternating between being a grand inquisitor and a commentator on the game. He would tell me, “Look, he hit the ball, and then he ran and ran and ran.” Then B got really excited at one point and was aping the professional announcers: “Number seven did his job! Number seven did his job!”
The questions were amusing:
“Why does that man have a big pocket full of balls?” [Because he’s the umpire and he’s in charge of the extra balls.]
“Why does that man have a thing on his face?” [A catcher’s mask so his face doesn’t get hurt if he gets hit with the ball.]
“Who is that?” [The coach.]
“What’s a coach?” [He’s like a teacher who tells the players what to do.]
“Why is that man walking in front of the camera?” [Someone in the dugout—I told him the man was going to the potty when Daddy-o didn’t come up with a more creative answer.]
He was very excited about the home run when it happened, but he had no idea what it was. He just knew that everyone else was excited in the stadium, so he got excited too and started clapping and cheering.
