sports

We have the Texas-Ohio State game on this evening. Both Daddy-o and I have two degrees from UT, but neither of us bleeds orange. We watch UT football when it's on public tv, but we don't have cable so we don't see every game. We grew up north of the Mason-Dixon line, so football isn't something that is vital to our lives. We can take it or leave it. Daddy-o prefers the halftime band shows which never get shown on tv.

B loves watching sports on tv. Absolutely adores it. It doesn't matter what sport-- baseball, basketball, football, tennis, soccer, golf... he likes them all and has since he was really young. He's not so hot on the ice skating though. A few months ago, I had golf on because it was the only thing on at that moment. B came in and watched. He was fascinated which amazed me since I think golf is one of the most boring things in the world to watch on tv. Kind of like watching corn grow. I asked B what we were watching, and he told me, "Basketball!" Right idea, wrong sport. But he has watched golf on a couple of occasions since then, and he really enjoys watching.

J has more athletic ability than either Daddy-o or me. She hasn't shown any interest in team sports, so we haven't really pushed her in that direction. She loves watching gymnastics and skating and sports like that on tv, and she'll watch a bit of football, but sports aren't her favorite thing to watch.

T inherited my Klutz ability. He is more graceful than I am, but it doesn't take much. So he's not really that in to playing sports either. T really has no interest in watching sports on tv aside from skating and extreme sports. He bores very quickly with other things like football and baseball. Tonight Daddy-o turned on the Longhorn game, and T immediately started asking for The Magic School Bus instead. Daddy-o managed to get through UT's horrendous fumble before losing out to T and having to turn on the DVD.

Meanwhile, I had the game on the tv in the master bedroom, so when B got scared by The Magic School Bus, he came up and joined me. B plopped himself on my bed, looked at the football game and said, "Let's watch golf. Tell Daddy to put golf on the tv." There was tennis on another channel, so maybe that's what he wanted, but I doubt it. The football game of the year is on, and he wants to watch golf. We left the channel on football.
