flying
We were discussing the potential Space Shuttle launch tomorrow at dinner last night. The kids watched the last launch and landing and were so fascinated that I bought Space Shuttle fabric on Ebay and made them all matching outfits.
Anyway, the topic of flying came up and J and T had lots of good questions about how Space Shuttles fly and why they can't launch in the rain and whether birds can fly into outer space. When I said there isn't enough oxygen in space for birds, J said that it was because there aren't any trees. So she did retain something from the science curriculum this past year! T said that the birds need a tank to breathe. T also then demonstrated how gravity works for us and why he can't fly. But he wants to, and J and B both volunteered that they want to fly too.
Then after dinner T went into an exhausted child frantic NEED to know exactly how and why paper airplanes fly. He slept in an hour and a half later than normal this morning. We let him because we're sure he need it, especially since he never sleeps in.
This morning, there was a tree roach on the fence outside. J freaked. She really did not like that "big nasty bug." Daddy-o agreed that he doesn't like them either. And I was glad not to have seen it and grateful it is outside where it belongs, not in the house.
